Tom Doak's minimalist masterpiece on the rugged Oregon coast — widely considered America's best modern links design.

About the Course

Pacific Dunes is the second course built at Bandon Dunes Resort and is universally considered Tom Doak's breakthrough work. Routed along the Pacific Ocean cliffs north of Bandon, Oregon, the course features extreme variety — including five par-3s and only three par-5s — and uses the natural dunes terrain with minimal earth-moving.

History

Mike Keiser, founder of Recycled Paper Greetings, opened Bandon Dunes Resort in 1999 with the original David McLay-Kidd course. Pacific Dunes opened in 2001 and immediately catapulted Tom Doak to architectural stardom. The resort has since added Bandon Trails, Old Macdonald, Sheep Ranch, and Bandon Preserve.

Signature Features

Cliffside holes 4 and 13 directly above the Pacific, the back-to-back par-3s 10 and 11, and natural blow-out bunkers carved by ocean wind.

Notable Events & Championships

U.S. Amateur Championship (2020), Curtis Cup (2018), and consistent placement in the top 5 of every major modern course ranking.
