Stunning oceanside public course on the Monterey Peninsula — repeatedly ranked the #1 public course in America.
About the Course
Pebble Beach Golf Links has hugged the rocky shoreline of Carmel Bay since 1919. Designed by amateurs Jack Neville and Douglas Grant, it features eight holes that play directly along the Pacific Ocean. Pebble Beach is part of the larger Pebble Beach Resorts and is open to the public — though tee times typically require a resort stay and several months' lead time. Walking up the 18th fairway with the ocean on your left is considered a rite of passage for any golfer.
History
Developer Samuel Morse opened the course on Washington's Birthday, 1919, as the centerpiece of his Del Monte Properties development. It hosted its first U.S. Amateur in 1929 and its first U.S. Open in 1972, won by Jack Nicklaus.
Signature Features
Cliffside par-3 7th — only 106 yards but exposed to the Pacific wind, the par-3 17th and the heroic par-5 18th hugging the bay, plus iconic ocean views from holes 4–10 and 17–18.
Notable Events & Championships
Six U.S. Opens (1972, 1982, 1992, 2000, 2010, 2019), the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am annually, and the 2027 U.S. Open. Tom Watson's chip-in on 17 in 1982 and Tiger Woods' 15-stroke victory in 2000 remain among the sport's greatest moments.
