Frequently ranked the #1 course in the world — a brutal yet beautiful test carved through New Jersey pine forest and sandy waste areas.
About the Course
Pine Valley Golf Club is widely considered the greatest golf course in the world. Each hole sits as an isolated cathedral surrounded by trees and immense sandy waste areas. The club is famously private and limits even media coverage of the course.
History
Hotelier George Crump began work on the course in 1912, draining swamps and clearing pine forest. He died in 1918 with several holes incomplete; H.S. Colt, A.W. Tillinghast, and others finished the design.
Signature Features
Vast sandy waste areas and forced carries on every shot, the par-5 7th with Hell's Half Acre, and the do-or-die par-3 5th — once described as the hardest par 3 in the world.
Notable Events & Championships
The Walker Cup (1936, 1985), the Crump Cup amateur event annually, and countless ranking #1 placements from Golf Digest and Golf Magazine.
