Hollywood's legendary George Thomas design — annual host of the PGA TOUR's Genesis Invitational.
About the Course
The Riviera Country Club, tucked into a Santa Monica canyon in Pacific Palisades, has hosted PGA TOUR events since the 1930s. The course features kikuyu fairways, deep barranca crossings, and one of the great closing holes in golf.
History
George C. Thomas Jr., working with Billy Bell, designed Riviera in 1926, and the course opened in 1927. The site was previously a barley field. Riviera quickly became the home club for Hollywood golfers like Bing Crosby, Bob Hope, and W.C. Fields.
Signature Features
The famous bunker in the middle of the par-3 6th green, the drivable par-4 10th (a study in risk-reward), and the natural amphitheater closing hole 18.
Notable Events & Championships
Three U.S. Opens (1948 — Hogan's first), three PGA Championships, and the Genesis Invitational annually (formerly the L.A. Open).
