One of the five founding members of the USGA — a windswept Long Island links beloved by champions and architects.

About the Course

Shinnecock Hills Golf Club, on the eastern end of Long Island, is one of the oldest formally organized golf clubs in America. The William Flynn-designed course (1931) sits on rolling, sandy terrain shaped by ocean breezes — a true links experience on American soil.

History

Founded in 1891, Shinnecock was one of five clubs that formed the United States Golf Association in 1894. The clubhouse, designed by Stanford White in 1892, is the oldest in America still in use. The current routing is Flynn's 1931 redesign.

Signature Features

Wide, fast fescue fairways, fast greens, deep pot bunkers, and constant ocean wind from nearby Peconic and Shinnecock bays.

Notable Events & Championships

Five U.S. Opens (1896, 1986, 1995, 2004, 2018) and a sixth scheduled for 2026. Recent winners include Corey Pavin (1995), Retief Goosen (2004), and Brooks Koepka (2018).
